Stephen Keshi was scheduled to meet with officials of Guinea’s national team on Wednesday, June 8, before he died in the early hours of the day. This was disclosed by a source close to the late coach in an interview with AfricanFootball.com He said: “Keshi was to meet with some officials over the Guinea coaching job in Lagos today.” The former Super Eagles coach died of a cardiac arrest in Benin City at 54.

Before his death, Keshi had worked with French speaking countries on the continent, when he qualified Togo to the 2006 Cup and took charge of Mali between 2008 and 2010. Guinea were looking at the possibility of appointing him as Luis Fernandez’s replacement. Many have visited the residence of the Big Boss in Benin to pay tribute to the former Nigerian International.
