Governorship candidate of the PDP in the April 11 governorship election in Benue State, Dr. Terhemen Tarzoor has said the continued attack on Benue farmers by people he described as Fulani militants is regrettable, saying it is a deliberate attempt to deny Benue its food basket status and called on governments at all levels to intensify surveillance at border communities to curb the menace.
The former lawmaker made this indication while addressing elders of the People’s Democratic Party drawn from all the fourteen local government areas in Tivland at the residence of a former Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr. Laha Dzever in Makurdi.
Dr. Tarzoor said he was delighted to address the elders for the first time after the judgement of the Supreme Court which went against him and the party saying that for peace to return to those communities that have come under frequent attacks, influx of strangers into the state through those borders must be thoroughly monitored through a Vigilante Surveillance Team and called on the state government to rise up to the challenge, stressing that security of lives and properties remains the primary responsibility of government at all levels.
On the state of the economy, Dr. Tarzoor said there is palpable fear on the minds of the people as value of market commodities have risen astronomically, an indication that inflation has set in, pointing towards depression and said, under such situations, more money is injected into the economy to stimulate confidence in the people without which there could be tension in the land.
A statement signed on his behalf by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Cornelius Hwande quotes the former Speaker of the State Assembly as equally appreciating the elders for keeping faith with the party and urged them to massively mobilize members in their respective local government areas for the upcoming congresses which timetable has already been released by the leadership of the party.
In their separate remarks, Chairman of the forum Dr Laha Dzever as well as a stalwart of the party from MINDA, Elder David Hwande all said they were proud of Dr. Tarzoor, especially in his determination to toe the path of justice soon after the loss of the Gubernatorial election, saying it was the most civilized thing to do and encouraged him to remain steadfast, promising to stand by him at all times.
