A bride was left to wed all by herself after the groom fell badly ill on their wedding day.
31-yr-old Lee Jiahui was scheduled to wed 33-yr-old Andy Peh at the Halia restaurant at the Raffles Hotel which they had booked in December for February 20.
Unfortunately, Peh a financial services manager, had contracted hand, foot, mouth disease (HFMD) shortly before their wedding day.
The bride who is three months pregnant told Singapore newspaper, The Strait Times that they had paid 80 per cent of their bill before the groom developed a fever on the Thursday before the wedding.
By the next day, his condition had gotten worse and was certified to have HFMD on his wedding day. The groom had to be quarantined after he developed ulcers and blisters which was said to be highly contagious.
“Instead of letting close to $10,000 go to waste, we decided to just go ahead with the dinner and make it an appreciation dinner instead, I hosted the dinner alone as a pregnant bride,” she said.
The wedding couldn’t be postponed so Lee had to go through with the ceremony all alone.
About 60 to 65 guests finally showed up for the wedding because she had initially cancelled and afterwards sent a message saying the ceremony was back on.
“From this episode, we see all the love and support from our friends and family. It’s something that money cannot buy,” she told The Straits Times.
Although, the groom is still ill, Peh and Jiahui are planning to have another wedding when he gets better, to make up for what they lost.
